Abstract: This study is grounded in the significance of emotional stability in supporting athletes’ self-regulation during competitions, particularly in pencak silat, which requires a balance of physical, technical, and psychological components. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between emotional stability and self-control during competitions among Pencak Silat athletes from Perguruan Harimau Bagaluik.
The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population consisted of all athletes from Perguruan Harimau Bagaluik, while the sample included 17 participants selected through purposive sampling. A questionnaire was used to measure emotional stability and self-control during competitions. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, normality and linearity tests, and hypothesis testing using the Pearson Product Moment correlation with SPSS software.
The results showed a correlation coefficient of r = 0.634 with a significance level of p = 0.006 < 0.05, indicating that the hypothesis was accepted. These findings demonstrate a significant relationship between emotional stability and self-control during competitions among pencak silat athletes. The positive correlation is classified as strong, suggesting that athletes with higher emotional stability tend to exhibit greater self-control during matches. Emotional stability accounted for 40.2% of self-control, while the remaining variance was influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study. Therefore, emotional stability can be considered a crucial factor in enhancing athletes’ self-control during competitions.
